Layers mean that something has a history. I like the idea that everything has a story, every object and person. When I see little snippets of that story layered on top of each other, like in peeling paintwork and rusty metal separating back into its elements, it's a bit like a ghostly reminder of the life and strength that the object once had. It reminds me of the impermenance of every moment and I enjoy capturing the transcience of this through my work.
I am drawn to working with spherical forms. For me the sphere is the most simple of forms, and this allows attention to be drawn to the surface texture and colour. I enjoy working with other simple and balanced forms like the oval. Using the mathematically beautiful Fibonacci Sequence it is possible to develop a beautifully curved ovoid which does not distract from the surface elements; more so it adds to it.
