Experimenting with the intrinsic qualities of materials has had a huge influence on my work and I enjoy discovering the limitations within this process. How thin can the clay go? How many holes can I pierce until the piece finally disintergrates? How many layers of glaze before it can take no more?
I aim to discover the boundaries of my working process, and then work just within them. This collection takes inspiration from the repeat pattern, neat and consice, found in deteriorating industrial metal work.
I notice emerald green flakes of paint work, musty yellow print, and layers of rust that appear like slices through time. There is beauty in this process of decay and observing these things inspires me to discover what it is that makes them so beautiful.
